Gambling On The Stock Exchanges

I am a low-spending Sharesies user, putting in a few dollars every day to buy a few stocks that I think have long-term potential, like hydrogen power, windfarms and solar power companies.

Lately I've felt pessimistic about the world economy, but I'm not rich or stupid enough to make massive bets with leveraged calls/puts on specific stocks.

But I just found out I can buy something called "Proshares UltraPro Short QQQ" which goes UP if the Nasdaq 100 goes down. This seems like a good option for me, with limited liability if it doesn't work out - no margin calls for me to worry about!

I'm going to buy this for a while until I feel like the economy is improving.

The Nasdaq 100 includes the following bullshit companies who I would like to short individually, but can't afford to, so I'm happy to find a way to short them easily:

  • Activision Blizzard - games software is discretionary spending which will stop during recession
  • Adobe - Acrobat reader is shit
  • Airbnb - all software, no assets, no long term value, can be easily replaced by competitor
  • Apple - luxury laptops and phones; easy to replace with Android/Linux in a recession
  • Atlassian - have you used it? It's shit. Again, it's software, no assets. Opex will be cancelled first in a recession.
  • Baidu - China is already in recession, they just haven't admitted it yet.
  • Cisco - have you used any of their products lately? Everything is aimed at massive corporations, the mid-size and small-business offerings are shit. Buy Juniper and Fortinet instead.
  • Datadog - software , no assets
  • eBay - haven't bought anything on here for years, Facebook Marketplace and Aliexpress have replaced this
  • Electronic Arts - games are discretioery spending, no assets, only software
  • Lucid - luxury cars in a recession? LOL!
  • Lululemon - overpriced fancy pants
  • Marriott International - business travel in a recession? LOL
  • Match Group - online dating in a recession? We'll meet on the breadlines and soup kitchens like the old days.
  • Meta - facebook is all software, no assets, no ad revenue in a recession; people ain't gonna buy VR goggles in a recession, just to watch ads that no companies can afford to buy in a recession.
  • Netflix - subscriptions first to go in a recession
  • Starbucks - over priced shit coffee in a recession? Buy nescafe granules instead
  • Tesla - already failing to make cars in China, luxury cars in a recession? LOL

Update 5th July 2022 - my bet has broken even so far, it's a strange feeling to wake up in the morning and check the news in the hope the US stock market has crashed even further.
